Position Overview

The Director, Routing is accountable for effective and efficient planning, logistics and follow-up of deliveries for all locations centrally routed through the department. This position works closely with field personnel and operations management to ensure the routes are effectively meeting the needs of the operations, while driving improvement in key metrics to achieve company goals. The director will proactively lead the group’s continuous improvement efforts to improve operational efficiency and customer responsiveness. This position is responsible for developing a best in class organization by utilizing existing/future delivery management technology, systems, and practices and developing the skills of the team.


  • Transportation Process – Support initiatives that create sustainable business results through process design, standardized tools, and implementation. Build network wide process to support effective daily planning of customer orders.

  • Serve as the key liaison between stakeholders to ensure processes are built into the workflow and don’t create an undue burden on employees. Ensure processes are measurable and that the process cascades as a goal for varying levels of the organization. An example of this type of process would be systematic feedback of actual delivery performance relative to plan, creating a mechanism for continuous improvement of delivery plan.

  • Champion continuous improvement tools and efforts throughout the organization. Develop root cause identification systems for service failures. Build team capabilities to analyze root cause and eliminate it.

  • Execution – Lead the team responsible for scheduling and planning of customer orders. Relentlessly challenge the status quo to determine if there are better ways to execute. Ensure effective standardized communication between key stakeholders on special billing programs, route plans, customer exception requests, and network disruptions. Lead a team that is primary network wide asset that is staffed 24/7. Management – Develop and communicate clear expectations for team members. Challenge team to continually improve and take on new tasks to broaden their experience and abilities. Communicate performance against expectations not only on mid-year and end of year reviews, but on an as needed basis to ensure that team has proper direction and feedback. Work closely in a well-structured, positive manner to create strong relationships with onsite team members. Constantly assess if the team has the right structure and personnel to support the department and if additional team members are necessary and oversee overall process to request, obtain approval, interview, and onboard new associates for your team.


  • B.S. / B.A required, Degree in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain preferred, MBA preferred.

  • 10+ years in core Supply Chain Operations roles (Transportation/Warehouse), System selection and implementation/training, Operational Analytics, Budget creation and management

  • Continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN, Six Sigma, TPM), Microsoft Excel, process flow tools

  • Strong people management

  • Analytical skills to assess and drive productivity metrics

  • Ability to plan, problem-solve and provide innovative solutions, with a strong bias for action and a hands-on approach

  • Requires strategic management skills necessary to lead efficiency and growth within the team and to partner effectively with all levels of the organization

  • Excellent problem solving skills
